Note: A matter of dissent with subsequent success is when the State of Israel’s government had approved the building of the “Mormon” center on Mount Scopus where the BYU Study program is currently located. The building was well under way when an Orthodox Jewish group called, Yad Le-achim, (dedicated to crushing all Christian activities in Israel) started a two-fold public campaign. First, in discrediting the government (which they did not support anyway) for allowing the BYU facilities to be built. Secondly, using a chord of “antisemitism,” they called the center a “missionary activity.” There are three kinds of antisemitism to the Jews; 1) kill the Jews, 2) let someone else kill the Jews, and 3) convert the Jews. This small Orthodox group has attempted, for decades, to pass a law against proselytizing in Israel and has failed. There is NO Israeli statute prohibiting missionary activity. Let it be known, however, missionary activity is deemed highly insensitive and frankly, “antisemitic.” Yad Le-achim did manage to pass a law that prohibits any type of bribe or payment to induce Jeeews to change their religion. (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not pay people to become members – they charge them!) BYU did sign a statement announcing they had no intention of doing missionary activities. President Howard W. Hunter also signed a statement on behalf of the Church to the same effect with the statement added, “so long as such activity is prohibited by the government of Israel.” The real reason Latter-day Saints are not proselytizing in Israel is because it is the Lord’s will. “And the time cometh that he shall manifest himself unto all nations, both unto the Jews and also unto the Gentiles; and after he has manifested himself unto the Jews and also unto the Gentiles, then he shall manifest himself unto the Gentiles and also unto the Jews, and the last shall be first, and the first shall be last.” (1 Nephi 13:42) Israeli government leaders kept their commitment to allow the building. The Orthodox group did not manage to convince the government to stop the BYU project, and no legal precedent was established that might affect the Latter-day Saints or, for that manner, any other church.
I got up a little after 6:30 am, had prayer, and. when Debbie got up, we had prayer together. I exercised and Debbie got ready and drove to her Red Light appointment for treatment with infrared lights for inflammation, etc., exercised for about 20 minutes doing leg lifts/set-ups, on the vibrating machine, and doing push-ups. I went to Great Clips barber shop and got my hair cut using a coupon for $8.99, which normally costs $19.00 for seniors. I tipped the girl who cut my hair $2.50. The tip was 10 times what a haircut cost when I was a child. I came home and picked Debbie up, and we rode up to the dentist's office in Thanksgiving Point. We got our teeth cleaned and got a fluoride treatment. At noon, Debbie met Linda Strong, a friend, for lunch. I went to the Wells Fargo branch in American Fork on 797 W. State Road near Costco and Walmart and met with Micah P. Pelletier, Senior Premier Banker at NMLS, ID, and Matt J. Tripp, Sr. Financial Advisor. I wanted to increase the amount of money I could deposit and transfer in a day and a month. They wanted me to commit to maintaining a balance in my account of $250,000. I did not want to, and they could not increase the amount of money I could move through my accounts unless I kept more money in my account. I made the monthly deposit in my prime checking account and ordered 200 Euros that will be shipped and arrive here at the Wells Fargo Branch on Monday, July 7th. Debbie and I leave for Rome, Italy, that day. Maybe the Euros will arrive in time before we leave town. If not, they will send the Euros back, and I will not be charged. When Debbie got home, we drove over to the Saratoga Springs Temple. I sent Porter a happy 17th birthday wish from me and Debbie. Debbie went to Libby's in Provo to get her eyebrows waxed. I ate dinner studied scriptures, and history. When Debbie got home we watched TV and had prayer together before going to bed.
